In the heart of Glen Iris, a refined architectural extension anchors a family home and entertainer’s delight through an elegant play of light, material, and proportion. A robust polished concrete floor establishes a visual and physical foundation, while custom Tasmanian oak joinery and matte black veneer elements bring warmth and rhythm to the open-plan kitchen and mudroom zone. Natural light is harnessed and diffused throughout the home, making the spaces feel airy and effortlessly spacious.
Urban Form’s precision craftsmanship brings the vision to life, refining details in close collaboration with the client and architect. The result is a home that feels cohesive and calm, where each material is selected not just for how it looks and feels, but how it lives.
Ensuite Bathroom
This ensuite showcases the power of tonal balance. The Nood Co. Pill Basin in Blush Pink sits proudly atop a white benchtop and custom timber vanity, framed by blush fish scale tiles that reappear within the shower niche. A skylight above washes the space in soft natural light, accentuating the layered materiality.
A striking red brick wall - a nod to the home’s original structure - lends depth and history, creating contrast against the pastel palette. Matte black tapware and fittings provide cohesion and a subtle contemporary edge, rounding out a bathroom that feels serene, tactile, and timeless.
Powder Room
In the adjoining powder room, the design shifts toward bold minimalism. The Nood Co. Shelf 02 basin in Musk is mounted cleanly on terrazzo-look tiled walls, its architectural silhouette softened by warm undertones. The integrated shelf offers functional storage in a compact footprint. This makes for smaller spaces where the design brings bold personality within considered placement of colour blocking and a mix of textures.
Paired with matte black wall-mounted tapware and a circular mirror, the basin becomes both utility and feature, echoing the home’s broader material narrative in a distilled form.
This Glen Iris home stands as a thoughtful response to contemporary family living - one that prioritises connection, craft and longevity. From expansive communal zones to finely detailed private spaces, the design achieves a quiet sophistication grounded in material honesty and spatial clarity. Through the collaborative efforts of Urban Form and Samuel Architecture, every room tells a cohesive story - one of balance, beauty and purpose.
