At Nood Co, we believe design is a dialogue: one built on curiosity, craft, and the willingness to share what we’ve learned. Last month, we had the privilege of welcoming students from North Metropolitan TAFE’s 3D & Industrial Design program into our factory for a behind-the-scenes look at how Nood Co. creations come to life.
Bringing Nood Co. to the Classroom
Before stepping into the factory, students were first introduced to Nood Co. in their own learning space. Our Creative Director, Kelwin, visited North Metro TAFE to share the Nood Co. story, from our design philosophy and material innovations to the realities of designing and launching products in a modern creative industry.
Kelwin walked students through the journey of transforming an idea into a tangible object. His presentation set the tone for what the students would later experience firsthand at the factory, demonstrating that great design is as much about intention and storytelling as it is about form and function.
An Inside Look at Craft, Materiality and Method
From the moment the students walked through our doors, we wanted to offer more than a tour. We wanted to show them the heart behind our work - the materials, the methods, and the hands-on processes that define every basin and bath design we craft here in Western Australia.
As one student beautifully reflected:
“At Nood Co, our product design theory became tangible. The design and craftsmanship happening in our own backyard left our NMTAFE students inspired and energised.”
Hearing these words meant the world to our team. It affirmed that transparency and generosity in design education can change not just how students learn, but how they imagine their own futures.
The Power of Storytelling in Design
One of the day’s highlights was hearing Chris share the Nood story, from humble beginnings. Carleen, a visiting student, later wrote:
“It was such a wonderful opportunity to visit the factory and hear Chris talk about the company with such passion. I left feeling very inspired.”
Her words reveal what we hope every visitor experiences, that design is not built on polish alone, but on grit, values, clarity of purpose, and a team that believes in the work.
A Moment of Gratitude
Carleen continued:
“I especially want to express my deepest gratitude to Chris for generously sharing his time, knowledge and business insights. With dreams of designing again after a long hiatus, this was a truly valuable opportunity.”
“I’ve been a fan for a while and dreamed of renovating my bathroom with one of your basins. It was great to meet the team responsible for producing such a beautiful, high-quality and sustainable product.”
Her reflections capture the spirit of the day with not just learning, but also connection, education and encouragement.
Why These Moments Matter
Inviting students into our factory is more than a gesture, it’s part of our responsibility as makers. By opening our doors, we’re opening pathways to curiosity, craftsmanship, the possibility of a creative career, and to believing that design can shape the way we live.
As we shared our processes, we were reminded that the next generation is watching, learning and imagining what comes next. These moments reaffirm why passing on knowledge matters, and why design should always be shared, not guarded.
