The Bunker House - A Coastal Dream in Gerringong

Please tell us about the materials you focused you with Bunker House eg. concrete, timbers and the feeling you were trying to create?

The Bunker House is a tribute to Neil’s love of concrete. The aesthetic that Neil and Krystal wanted to achieve was something raw, luxe and contemporary, with touches of mid-century modern architecture.

Neil and Krystal had long holidayed in Gerringong, and dreamed of one day creating the ultimate luxury holiday escape. As a young couple with kids and a large group of friends, they wanted to capture the feeling of resort-style living, and create a house that was perfect for entertaining.

They used lots of raw materials like timber, concrete and stone both as the structure and as a design feature. By keeping these raw materials uncovered, they reduced the total embodied energy of the build.

The interior of the home needed to feel raw and stripped back but still warm and welcoming, and they achieved this by clever design choices like pops of colour.

How did Nood basins fit into that theme?

NoodCo basins fit in the luxe, stripped back theme as the basins added a pop of colour and excitement to every room, but still aligned with the raw material palette.

How did you use Nood colour in each space?

The tone of each basin was carefully matched with the tile grout colour.

The coloured grout against the Haddon Matt white tile from Tilecloud pulled together each ensuite space so well, and these colour accents were further complemented by the styling of each bedroom & ensuite. Paired with the matching mirror above the basin, there was a uniform look that was pared back and sophisticated.

The bathroom is largely the only place where colour is used throughout the whole project, so the Nood Co colours and their matte finish suited the Bunker House perfectly.

What kind of Nood basins did you use in your project and why?

The trough basin vanity set in peach in the master bathroom was initially chosen as it made a statement, and would work with the oversize, round stone bath and the breathtaking views.

Neil and Krystal love that the basin is the perfect size for bathing their 5 month old son – it was important to them that they had this family-friendly touch in their bathroom.

Each guest ensuite featured a wall hung basin that was economical in terms of space, and paired with the matching mirror above made a statement.
