OUR MATERIAL: concrete, considered

Nood Co. basins and bathtubs are handmade in Australia from Ultra High Performance Concrete, or UHPC, selected for its strength, durability and ability to create refined architectural forms.

Concrete is a natural material, so every piece will have subtle individual variation. Our process is designed to achieve a high level of consistency while retaining the characteristics that make concrete distinct.

Depending on the finish selected, you may notice variation in tone, texture, pinholes or surface movement.

The difference between our finishes is primarily how strongly that material character is expressed.

Our most refined concrete finish

SIGNATURE SMOOTH

The surface is predominantly smooth with restrained patina and a largely consistent appearance, allowing the product form and colour to take precedence.

An occasional pinhole, subtle tonal shift or slight surface variation may still occur. These characteristics are natural to hand cast concrete and do not affect the structural integrity of the product.

CONSCIOUS ORGANIC

Inspired by traditional pottery techniques and the philosophy of wabi-sabi, these products intentionally move away from mechanical uniformity.

You may notice gentle undulations, slight variation in form and softly textured surfaces. These characteristics are deliberate and form part of the design. Two pieces will closely relate to one another without necessarily appearing completely identical

RAW TEXTURED

Texture and surface movement are deliberately more visible, creating a tactile and expressive finish.

Variation from piece to piece should be expected. This is not an unfinished version of Signature Smooth, but an intentionally different treatment of the same material. The geometry remains considered. The material is simply allowed to speak more strongly.

WILL EVERY CONCRETE PIECE LOOK THE SAME?

Shortly put, no. Concrete is made from natural materials and each Nood Co. piece is cast and finished by hand. Subtle variation may occur in:

PATINA

PINHOLES

TEXTURE

These characteristis are inherent to the material.

Signature Smooth presents the most restrained variation, while Conscious Organic and Raw Textured intentionally allow more surface character to remain visible.

UHPC EXPLAINED

UHPC - Ultra High Performance concrete - is an advanced concrete with significantly greater strength than conventional concrete. Its performance allows Nood Co. to create relatively thin, refined profiles while maintaining the durability required for everyday bathroom use. Each piece is hand poured and individually finished, combining controlled manufacturing with the natural characteristics of cast concrete.

Small pinholes can occur naturally during the concrete casting process as air moves through the material. Our manufacturing process is designed to minimise excessive surface variation, particularly within Signature Smooth products, but occasional pinholes remain a natural characteristic of concrete. They do not inherently indicate a structural defect.

COLOURED CONCRETE

Nood Co. concrete is pigmented throughout the material rather than relying on a surface colour coating. Small differences in tone may still occur between pieces or batches.

Lighting also has a significant effect on how colour is perceived. Natural light, artificial lighting and surrounding materials can all influence how a colour appears. For this reason, photography should be considered indicative. We recommend viewing a physical Nood Co. colour sample before making your final selection.
