Taylors Wines: A New Dawn in Clare Valley's Wine Legacy

In the heart of Clare Valley, a landmark has been reborn, reshaping the landscape of one of Australia's most iconic wine regions. As one enters the premises of Taylors Wines, the past and present come together in a breathtaking dance. The heritage, embodied by the original homestead, converses eloquently with the grandeur of the brand new cellar door.

Spearheaded by the collaborative efforts of GP Architects, Cook Building, and Georgie Shepherd Interior Design, this multi-million dollar project marks the first major revamp of Taylors' cellar door experience in half a century. Positioned adjacent to the original homestead and sheltered by the famous battlement facade of the operational facilities, this audacious venture is set to revolutionise the visitor's experience.

Mitchell Taylor, the third-generation winemaker and managing director, sums it up: “The Clare Valley is a beacon for gourmand travellers. Our ambition was to ascend to the demand and showcase our world-renowned wines in an unparalleled setting. This new chapter is the embodiment of that vision."

GP Architects, renowned for curating exquisite wine and hospitality locations in the region, embraced the challenge head-on. Kristina Soggee, Principle Architect, exclaims, "The commitment was not just to erect a structure, but to infuse it with the spirit and story of Taylors." To this end, significant efforts were made to harmonise the new build with the existing heritage structure.

Inside, the new cellar door reveals an intricate tapestry of design and experience, with five distinct zones for guests: the Main Tasting Room, The Courtyard, The East Patio, The Event Pavilion, and the Collector’s Club members' tasting room. From the travertine stone countertop and the iconic three seahorse emblem, to the bronze-green tiled fireplace and custom timber features, every facet narrates a tale of passion, legacy, and innovation.

Yet, amidst this symphony of design, one space stands out not just for its aesthetic but for its ethos - the accessible toilet featuring the Shelf 02 Wall Hung Basin in Mid Tone Grey. Kristina emphasises, "Compliance with AS1428 proves that accessibility and beauty can co-exist harmoniously." This thoughtful inclusion is a testament to Taylors Wines’ commitment to creating an inclusive environment without compromising on elegance.

With sustainability at its heart, the project incorporates elements like EV charging stations, solar panels, and water conservation. Each component, from the crackling fireplace in The Courtyard to the panoramic views from the Collector’s Club, is meticulously curated to provide a luxurious yet sustainable experience.

As doors open in April 2023, Taylors Wines invites the world to partake in its redefined cellar door experience.
